About the event

Diabetes 101; Understanding Diabetes - with Rosario Korten

Rosario is a Registered Nurse and Diabetic Educator (RN, MSN, ONC) and North Stonington resident who works at the Endocrinology/Diabetes Clinic at Backus Hospital. She has enthusiastically volunteered to teach us more about diabetes: what it is; what are the types; how it is caused. She will discuss prevention and maintenance, as well as gestational diabetes. So, if you or someone you love deals with this disease, or is looking to prevent the onset, or runs the risk of gestational diabetes, this is a great program for you.

What we will learn:

  • Description of the differences between Type 1, Type 2, and gestational and pre-gestational diabetes.

  • Discuss the importance of management.

  • Describe basal / bolus insulin therapy and the actions of different insulins.
