Yahoo!
-
Yahoo! is primarily a directory of web sites, categorized by topics and
subtopics. When you search, the first results you see are matching Yahoo!
categories and sites. You then have the option to go to web page matches
(provided by Inktomi's search engine) or continue your search on other
major search engines.
Excite
In addition to searching for the exact words you enter in the search box,
Excite also searches for related ideas and concepts. Search results include
Excite Web Site Guide matches, web sites found, and news articles. Of interest
is News Tracker, a clipping service that searches a wide variety of online
newspapers and magazines for topics you're interested in.
Lycos:
Your Personal Internet Guide
Search results are sorted by Lycos Open Directory categories, web sites,
news & media, and web pages found. Lycos also offers a Search Guard
adult content filter option.

Network
This Infoseek/Disney portal offers Infoseek searches with an optional GOguardian
filter to screen objectionable content. The Advanced Search feature allows
you to refine your search by selecting options from pulldown boxes. Click
Topics to access the Reviewed Sites directory.
Netcenter
Netscape's portal offers several search engines to choose from, including
Netscape Search by Excite. Browse by topic using the Netscape Open Directory.

MSN.COM
Run a Microsoft MSN web search or choose from a list of other search engines.
Explore the "best of the web" with MSN's Web Directory.
Snap
Searches return matching Snap Directory categories & sites followed
by matching web pages from Inktomi. NBC is developing Snap as their portal.
Go2Net
Go2Net features metasearching (searching the web using several engines
at once) with MetaCrawler. Search results are collated to remove duplicates
and ranked by relevance. Browse web sites by topic with the LookSmart directory.

AltaVista is currently ranked as the Internet's most powerful search engine,
followed by Northern Light and Inktomi. Start your search by asking a question
or entering a few keywords. AltaVista now features the LookSmart Directory,

search option is only recommended for very specific searches using Boolean
expressions.
