Library Hours

Wheeler Library serves as the principal public library for the residents of North Stonington. The building has a rich history. Constructed in 1900 of Westerly granite, the Wheeler School and Library served as the town's secondary school and public library for over forty years. The Wheeler Family financed the building's construction, and provided an endowment which remains our principal source of funding. Many residents of North Stonington fondly remember their years spent in this building during its decades as a school. Although a major renovation was undertaken in 1992, the library retains its historic character. Two marble lions remain vigilant outside its front doors.
A Board of Trustees, whose members are Gary Annino, William Hescock, Thomas Downie, Kate Parenteau, and Leda Stanley-Fidrych, oversee the Library.
Have a question about the library? Need help from your local librarian? Please call us or use our convenient Email Contact form.

Any Connecticut resident holding a library card from their home library may borrow materials from the library. In addition, patrons with a Wheeler Library card may borrow from other public libraries within the state of Connecticut. Most library materials may be returned at any public library within the state.
We provide books, periodicals, compact discs, books on tape, videos, computer software, and reference resources for all ages. In addition, the library provides public access to computers, including the Internet.
Wheeler Library participates in the reQuest card catalog and online interlibrary loan service provided by the Connecticut Library Network. This service lists the holdings for most public libraries in the state, including Wheeler Library. In addition, many academic libraries' collections are available. You can search for all types of library materials in this net-based card catalog. You may place your own interlibrary loans, and we will call you when your materials reach this library. For more information visit our Research Page.
Books can be returned after hours in the book drop at the rear of the library. Videos, Cds and DVDs must be returned during open hours.
We are happy to deliver library materials to homebound patrons at their convenience. Please call Amy Kennedy at the library for assistance.
