ABOUT THE CHILDREN'S ROOM
The Children's Room at the Wheeler Library provides library materials and resources for children of all ages. Our collection includes books for infants and children; videos & DVDs; computer software for checkout; books on tape; and children's magazines. School age children will find materials for pleasure reading and for completing school assignments. We often secure materials from other libraries in the state through the Interlibrary Loan System. To help us help you, please let us know as soon as your project is assigned so that we can make the reference materials available to you. For students working on research projects, we have Internet access. Please sign our Access Policy before using the Internet at the library.
Borrowing Privileges
Application for library cards may be made when the parent believes
the child is ready. There is no limit on the number of books borrowed;
however, only two books on any specific topic may be borrowed at one time.
Books circulate for three weeks. Fines accumulate at ten cents per day per
book. Renewals by phone are encouraged. Class visits from the North Stonington Elementary School take place monthly during the school year. Books borrowed during class visits are due two weeks from the date of that visit. The books may be renewed.

Gardening in the Greenhouse (For 4, 5, and 6 year olds)
Join us
for an eight week story time and gardening program for 4, 5 and 6 year olds!
The program begins Thursday, March 27. Each session
begins at the library with stories about a variety of fun gardening themes,
including berries, sunflowers, rain, worms, and vegetables. After the stories,
we’ll walk to the greenhouse so we can plant seeds, watch them grow, and then
finally transplant them. All plants should be ready to go home in late May. In
addition to our planting activities, we’ll learn about worms and start a worm
composter together.
All planting activities take place in the Wheeler HS greenhouse. Parents/caregivers may pick up their child at the greenhouse at 11:10 am or wait at the library for us to return to the library at 11:15 am. Sessions will be held from 10:15 to 11:15 am on March 27, April 3, April 10, April 24, May 1, May 8, May 15, and May 22 (no session on April 17).
If your child is unable to attend any gathering, please let us know as soon as possible (535-0383).
Nutmeg
Book Club
(For 3rd, 4th and 5th graders)
Is it possible to travel around the world in 40 days – using only surface transportation?
Would you want to try?
Read about Adam Story’s adventures in MVP – Magellan Project, as he competes against 23 other teams, all trying to circle the globe and win a four million dollar prize.
3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are invited to read this book and other great Nutmeg nominees in the Wheeler Library Nutmeg Book Club. The book club meets this spring and fall to discuss the ten books that have been nominated for the 2009 Nutmeg Children’s Book Award.
The first meeting of the book club will be Tuesday, April 8, from 3:30 to 4:15 pm at Wheeler Library. Parents/caregivers should send a note to their child’s teacher to allow the bus to drop them off at the library. Children should be picked up at the library at 4:15 pm. A light snack will be provided at each meeting.
Copies of each book will be available at Wheeler Library approximately three weeks ahead of the meeting date when that book is to be discussed. The book club schedule for April, May, and June is:
April 8 MVP – Magellan Project, April 29 Free Baseball, May 20 Close Encounters of a Third-World Kind, June 10 Three Good Deeds.

Registration begins Monday, March 10. Call or stop by Wheeler Library (535-0383) to register and pick up a copy of the book for the April 8 meeting.
